How to turn JPG photos into a PDF
- Choose the JPG photos or scans, one or many. Each one becomes a page.
- Drag the pictures into the order you want, or move them with the arrows. Turn a sideways picture with Rotate left 90° or Rotate right 90°.
- Choose the page: the picture’s own shape, or A4 or US Letter with a margin, fitted inside the page or filling it.
- Select Create PDF, then Download to save it.
Each picture’s own data goes in exactly as it was saved
PDFCheetah writes each JPG’s picture data into the PDF byte for byte, so nothing is re-compressed and no detail is lost. What it leaves out is the record a camera or an app keeps inside the file — the date, the device, the location, any notes — and anything a phone stores behind the picture, such as a motion photo’s clip, so none of that travels with the PDF; the result says how many pictures carried a record. A turn — whether the camera recorded it or you chose it — is written as an instruction on the page rather than by re-saving the picture. The one exception is a picture the camera recorded as mirrored, which a page cannot express: it is put the right way round and saved again at high quality, and the result says so. Before the download appears, PDFCheetah opens the finished file again on this device, checks its page count and draws a sample of its pages.
Paper size, margins and fit
By default every page is the same shape as its picture, with no border, so a phone photo and a landscape scan each get a page that suits them. Choose A4 or US Letter to put every picture on the same paper: Fit the whole picture keeps everything visible with a border where the shapes differ, and Fill the page covers the paper edge to edge and trims what does not fit. A margin adds white space around the picture on either kind of page. The page you see in the preview is the page in the file.
Current limitations
This tool takes JPG files; a PNG picture has a tool of its own, and a HEIC picture needs converting to JPG first. No text is read out of the pictures, so a photographed page is not searchable. Camera details such as the location and date are not carried into the PDF. Larger batches than this device can place safely are refused when you choose them, before anything runs.
Common questions
- Are my photos uploaded?
- No. The PDF is put together in your browser, and your pictures are never sent anywhere. Download it, or use Share on a phone.
- Does converting reduce the quality of my pictures?
- No. Each JPG's picture data goes into the PDF exactly as it was saved, with nothing re-compressed. The one exception is a picture whose camera recorded it as mirrored: that one is put the right way round and saved again at high quality, and the result tells you when it happened.
- Do my photos' location and camera details end up in the PDF?
- No. The date, device, location and any notes a camera or an app stores inside a JPG are taken out before the picture is written into the PDF, and so is anything a phone keeps behind the picture, such as a motion photo's clip; the result says how many pictures carried them. The picture's own data is untouched, and an embedded color profile is kept so colors keep their meaning.
- Can I put the pictures in a different order?
- Yes. Every picture appears in one preview, in the order it will be written, and any picture can be moved: drag it by its grip, use the arrows on it, or move it from the keyboard. Pictures can be turned or removed, and anything you change can be undone.
- Which page size will my pictures be on?
- Your choice. By default every page is the same shape as its picture, with no borders. Choose A4 or US Letter to put every picture on the same paper, fitted inside the page or filling it, with or without a margin.
- Will the text in my scans be searchable?
- No. A PDF made from pictures holds them as pictures, so text in a photographed page cannot be searched or selected. PDFCheetah does not read text out of pictures.
- Can I convert PNG or HEIC files here?
- This tool takes JPG files. A PNG picture has a tool of its own, PNG to PDF. A HEIC picture needs converting to JPG first; the Photos app on a phone does that when you export or share a photo.
