How to merge PDF files
- Add two or more PDFs, or drop them onto the page.
- Use the up and down arrows on each file to set the order they are combined in, or reorder single pages in the preview below: drag a page by its grip, use the arrows on it, or move it with Alt and the arrow keys. Add PDF brings in another at any point.
- Check the combined preview — every page of every file, in the order they will be written.
- Select Download to save the merged PDF.
Combining PDFs without flattening them
PDFCheetah copies your pages into the order you can see, without turning text or vector artwork into pictures. The files you started with are left untouched, and the finished file is opened again on this device — its page count checked, a sample of its pages read in full — before you download it.
What happens to forms, bookmarks and signatures
Not every part of a PDF survives being combined. Fillable forms stop working, and bookmarks, layers, attachments, tags, metadata and page labels are not carried into the merged file. A signature on a signed or certified document will no longer be valid. Your pages, and ordinary links on them, come across as they are.
What Merge PDF can handle
You can combine up to 20 PDFs in one merge, and there is no daily limit on how many merges you run. How many pages fit in a single merge depends on what the browser you are in can do rather than on a plan; if a merge is too large, PDFCheetah says so before it starts rather than failing part way through. Password-protected PDFs are not supported yet — the file is named and refused, so you know which one to unlock.
Where it works
Merge PDF runs in the browser you already have, on a computer or a phone. Every release is tested automatically in browsers built on the same engines as Chrome and Safari, at desktop and phone screen sizes; those runs emulate a phone rather than use one. There is nothing to install, no extension and no desktop app, and once the page has loaded once it keeps working without a connection.
If something does not work
Three things stop a merge, and each says which it is. A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked in the app that locked it before it can be combined. A file too large for this device is refused with a suggestion — choose a smaller file, or move to a desktop browser. And a signed PDF merges, but its signature will not survive, so check the result in the reader your recipient uses.

- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Merging happens in your browser. The merged PDF is saved to this device, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you use Share.
- Will my signed PDF stay valid?
- The merged copy may invalidate existing signatures; your originals are untouched.
- How many files can I merge?
- Up to 20 in one job, within the size limits.
- Can I reorder pages before merging?
- Yes. Every page of every file appears in one preview, in the order it will be written, and any page can be moved: drag it by its grip, use the arrows on it, or move it from the keyboard. A whole selection moves together, a page can be sent straight to the start or the end, pages can be rotated, and a page can be left out of the merged file. The arrows on a file move that whole file at once. Anything you change can be undone.
- Does merging reduce PDF quality?
- No. Your pages are copied into the new file exactly as they are: nothing is re-saved at a lower resolution and nothing is turned into a picture. What does not come across is what sits around the pages. Fillable forms stop working, and bookmarks, tags, layers, attachments, page labels and document metadata are not carried into the merged PDF. Your pages themselves come across as they are, with ordinary links intact.
- Are password-protected PDFs supported?
- No. Merge names the locked file and refuses it, so you know which one to unlock. Remove the password in the app that locked it, then merge the unlocked copy. Organize PDF can show you inside a password-protected PDF once you enter its password, but it cannot save a new copy of one either.
- Does it work on phones?
- Yes. Merge PDF runs in the browser your phone already has, and there is nothing to install. The previews and the controls that reorder pages are sized for a touch screen. What a merge can take on is decided by what the browser on that device can do rather than by a plan, and a job too large to run safely is refused as soon as you add the files, before any merging starts.
