How to remove blank pages from a PDF
- Open the PDF you want to check.
- Wait a moment while every page is checked on your device. The pages that look blank are marked and selected for you.
- Look at each selected page. Clear any you want to keep, and add any the check did not mark.

What counts as a blank page
A page is called blank when nothing was drawn on it, or when the only thing on it is the grain of the paper a scanner picked up. A page carrying a page number, a footer or a running head on its own is called nearly blank and is left unselected, because taking it out changes how the rest of the document is numbered. A page with a note, a form field, a picture or a line on it is kept, as long as what is on it is dark enough to see against the page’s own paper — pale printed rules, an empty ruled table, a tint block and a washed-out photograph are all kept.
What the check cannot see
Every page is measured against the shade of its own paper, which is what lets a scan be read at all. So a scanned page tinted a single even shade from edge to edge has nothing to be measured against: that shade is its paper, and the page is called blank and arrives selected. The same tint drawn by the app that made the PDF is shown as nearly blank and left unselected. A small pale mark can be missed for the same reason. Look at every page the check marks before you remove it — that is why they arrive selected rather than removed.

- Is my file uploaded to find the blank pages?
- No. Every page is drawn and checked inside your own browser, and the file never leaves your device.
- Will it remove a page on its own?
- Never. Pages that look blank arrive selected so you can look at them, and nothing is taken out until you choose to remove them and save a new copy.
- How does it decide a page is blank?
- Each page is drawn small on your device and measured for how much is on it, against the shade of its own paper rather than against pure white. A page is kept when something on it is dark enough to see against that paper — a note, a picture, a line or any text. One page it cannot see is a scanned page tinted a single even pale shade from edge to edge, which measures as its own paper and is called blank, so look at every page it marks. A tint drawn by the app that made the PDF is shown as nearly blank instead.
- What happens to a page that only has a page number on it?
- It is marked as nearly blank and is not selected. The same goes for a page carrying something that does not show, such as white text or a shape painted at no opacity. You can still select those pages yourself.
- Does it work on scans?
- Yes, and it is what the tool is mostly for. The shade of the paper is measured out, so a gray scan is not read as covered in ink, and isolated specks are dropped before anything is counted — so the dusty back of a scanned sheet is found and a page of faint typing is kept. A very small pale mark can still be missed, so look at each page before you remove it.
- Does it change my original file?
- No. You download a new PDF and the file you chose is left exactly as it was.
