How to annotate a PDF
- Open the PDF you want to mark up.
- Choose what to add — text, a highlight, a drawing, a shape, a link or a picture.
- Drag on the page to place it, then move, resize or change its color.

What this tool changes, and what it leaves alone
PDFCheetah writes what you add onto the page on this device. It adds a layer: the text already in the file is not rewritten or reflowed, and it stays selectable and searchable underneath. A highlight, an underline and a strike-through are written as real PDF annotations, so another reader can select them, change their color or take them off again — they are not colored rectangles painted over the words. A drawing is saved as lines rather than as a picture of them, so it stays sharp when the page is zoomed or printed.
Marking is not hiding
Anything you put over the page sits on top of it. Text under a box or a highlight is still in the document and can still be copied out, so this is not a way to remove private information. If a document needs something taken out rather than covered, it needs redaction, which PDFCheetah does not do.
Adding text is not editing the text that is there
This tool puts new text on the page. It does not let you retype a sentence that is already in the PDF, because doing that means rebuilding the document's own text and fonts, and that is a different job from the one this tool does. Everything you type here is added over the page in the bundled font, which covers Latin and Devanagari scripts.
Common questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to edit it?
- No. Everything you add is written onto the page in your browser, and the file never leaves this device. Download the result, or use Share on a phone.
- Can I change the text that is already in the PDF?
- No. This tool adds text over the page; it does not retype or reflow the words already in the file. Editing a PDF's own text means rebuilding the document's text and fonts, which is a different job and one PDFCheetah does not do. The original text stays exactly as it is, and stays selectable and searchable.
- If I cover something with a box, is it gone?
- No, and this matters. Everything you add sits on top of the page, so text under a box, a highlight or a picture is still in the file and can still be selected, searched and copied out. This is annotation, not redaction. Do not use it to hide private information.
- Can another reader remove or change a highlight I added?
- Yes, and that is deliberate. Highlights, underlines and strike-throughs are written as real PDF annotations, so any reader can select them, recolor them or take them off. A highlight painted onto the page as a colored rectangle could not be, and would cover the words instead of marking them.
- Which languages can I type in?
- Latin and Devanagari scripts, from the font bundled with the tool. Text in a script neither covers is refused rather than printed as empty boxes, so you find out before you download rather than after.
- Can I draw with a stylus or my finger?
- Yes. The page takes a pen, a finger or a mouse, and a drawing is saved as lines rather than as a picture of them — so it stays sharp when the page is zoomed or printed and adds almost nothing to the file's size.
