Compare PDF files and see exactly what changed
PDFCheetah's free Compare PDF tool marks the words added and removed between two versions of a PDF in your browser — and what else looks different on each page — and your files never leave your device.

How to compare two PDF files
- Choose the original PDF and the changed one: the first is the original.
- Select Compare PDFs.
- Pick a page to see the words added and removed on it, and compare it as pictures to see what else moved. Download the comparison as a text report.
Two comparisons, both on this device
The text of every page is read in reading order and compared word by word, page 1 with page 1, so a changed amount, a new clause or a dropped sentence is marked where it happened. The picture comparison draws both pages at the same size and marks every part that looks different — a moved logo, a new signature, a changed chart — in red. Nothing is uploaded: both files are read in this browser tab.
Current limitations
Pages are paired by number, so a page added near the start makes every page after it look changed. Formatting — bold, fonts, colors — is not compared as text, only as pictures. A scanned page has no words to compare: use the picture comparison for it. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened here yet: use Unlock PDF first if you know the password.
Common questions
- Are my two PDFs uploaded to compare them?
- No. Both files are read and compared in your browser, on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- What differences does it find?
- Words added and removed, page by page, from the text of each page. The picture comparison then marks in red anything else that looks different on a page, such as a moved logo, a new signature or a changed chart.
- Why does every page after one look changed?
- Pages are paired by number, page 1 with page 1. If a page was added or removed near the start, every later page is compared with a different one and looks changed.
- Can I compare scanned PDFs?
- Only as pictures. A scanned page has no words to compare, so use the picture comparison for it.
