Remove PDF Metadata, or edit what it says
PDFCheetah's free Remove PDF Metadata tool shows, edits or clears a PDF's title, author and hidden data in your browser — camera details in its photos too — and your file never leaves your device.

Why there is no daily limit, and no upload
How to remove metadata from a PDF
- Open the PDF. Its title, author, subject and keywords appear, ready to edit.
- Change them, empty them, or select Clear all.
- Leave the hidden-data options on to remove everything else the file carries.
- Select Create cleaned PDF, then Download.
What a PDF says about you
Most PDFs carry the name of the person who made them, the program and computer they used, when it was written and edited, and sometimes a full editing history in a hidden XMP packet. Photos inside can carry the date, the phone and the place they were taken. This tool shows the visible part, lets you keep what you want, and removes the rest — on this device, with nothing uploaded.
Current limitations
The file still says it was written by PDFCheetah, as every PDFCheetah download does. Words on the pages themselves — a name in a footer, the text of a comment — are content, not metadata, and stay; who wrote a comment and when is removed, and so are attached files and scripts. Camera details are removed from JPEG photos; other picture formats store theirs differently and are left as they are. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened here yet: use Unlock PDF first if you know the password.
Common questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to remove its metadata?
- No. The PDF is read and cleaned in your browser and the new file is written on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- What metadata does a PDF carry?
- Usually the title, author, subject and keywords, the program and often the computer it was made on, when it was created and changed, and sometimes a hidden XMP copy with an editing history. Photos inside can carry the date, device and place they were taken.
- Can I edit the title and author instead of removing them?
- Yes. The title, author, subject and keywords appear ready to edit. Change them, or empty a field to remove it; everything else is removed.
- Is everything removed?
- The document properties you did not keep, the XMP packet, camera details in JPEG photos, comment authors and dates, page thumbnails, app-private data, objects left over from earlier saves, and attached files and scripts. The file still says PDFCheetah wrote it, and words on the pages — including the text of comments and form answers — stay.
