PDF to JSON, with its text, fields and structure

How to convert a PDF to JSON
- Open the PDF.
- Choose whether each page’s text and the XMP packet go in.
- Select Export as JSON, then Download the .json file or copy it.
What the file holds
The document’s properties and PDF version, each page’s size, rotation and label, the bookmarks with the pages they open, every form field’s name and value, links and comments with where they sit, and — if you choose — the text of every page in reading order. It is read in this browser tab: nothing is uploaded.
Current limitations
Pictures, drawings, fonts and attached files are not exported, and tables come out as text rather than rows and columns. A scanned page has no text to read. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened here yet: use Unlock PDF first if you know the password.
Common questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to convert it to JSON?
- No. The PDF is read in your browser and the .json file is written on this device. Download it, or copy the JSON straight from the page.
- What does the JSON contain?
- The document's properties and PDF version, each page's size, rotation and label, the bookmarks and the pages they open, every form field's name and value, links and comments with where they sit, and — if you choose — each page's text in reading order and the raw XMP metadata.
- Are pictures or fonts exported?
- No. The JSON holds what the PDF says, not what it looks like: pictures, drawings, fonts and attached files are left out, and tables come out as text.
- Can I get the values typed into a PDF form?
- Yes. Every form field is listed with its name, type, page and value — the text typed in, the option chosen, or true or false for a checkbox.
